Free Press Summer Fest Did Not Let Rain Ruin Their Parade

In Uncategorized by JoLow

No matter what elements occurred, Free Press Summer would not be shut down! The two days festival took place at NRG stadium for the second year in a row. The festival creators had to shift quickly from the original location of Eleanor Tinsley Park  in order to avoid what could have been a big disaster. Despite a short pause for rain during the second day of the festival, FPSF went on with great music and a crowd that was ready to embrace any weather that came their way.  Here are some of our highlights from the weekend.

The indie sensation played a wonderful set a FPSF. Starting out with some of their more mellow songs and later showing off their talents as musicians. The band cracked up the crowd when they told a story about Jon Lent throwing up all over himself the night before the festival.

ColleGrove (Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz)

The two rappers danced around stage playing a wide variety of songs from their ColleGrove album and some classic Lil Wayne songs. Their performance was a great way to close out Saturday night of the festival.

Big Gigantic

Big Gigantic played an outstanding set at the festival. Playing a couple of their unreleased tracks along with their classic remixes. The talented musicians certainly got the FPSF crowd moving on Sunday!

Louis The Child

Two of the youngest performers at the concert definitely catered to a pretty young Free Press Summer Fest crowd. Louis The Child is definitely a duo to keep your eye on this summer and will certainly go nowhere but up.

Matt and Kim

This was one of the best surprises of the entire festival. Matt and Kim ignited the crowd with their energy, good spirited music and blow up sex dolls. The duo has unique chemistry that shines throughout their performance and music. If you see Matt and Kim on the festival circuit make sure to check them out.

Gogol Bordello

The “Gypsy Music” band put on one of the best overall shows at the festival. Lead singer Eugene Hütz, brings an unmatched amount of charisma to every show running around the FPSF stage shirtless. If you were looking to get caught up in a mosh pit than this was the show for you.

Mac Miller

At 24 years old its surprising that Mac Miller has been on the festival circuit for quite some time. Mac Miller got the crowd bouncing and  jumping. The highlight of the show was hearing thousands of people shouting F*&$ Donald Trump during his song “Donald Trump.

Big Grams (Big Boi + Phantogram)

The show looked as if it would be canceled due to weather and thankfully it went on because it was one of the greatest performances of the festival. The duo is unlikely match that works perfectly together. Big Boi has some of the best flow in the game and Phatogram’s vocals balance it out to make beautiful music.

Despite the weather, the last minute change in location and the rain delay FPSF was a success. We’ll see you again next year!
