If there is one thing we can all agree on, it is that we all love donuts. You would have to be crazy to dislike the circle shaped doughy treats! If only there were some type of event to celebrate donuts and all the joy they bring to us.

Fear not, as this past Saturday, the first LA Donut Festival took place at the Mad Ave Graffiti House. Los Angeles’ best donut shops all crowded in to showcase their own. Attendees were able to stuff their faces with every type of donut possible and coffee as well, since you can’t have donuts without coffee!

You were able to go from booth to booth and sample donut shops across all of Los Angeles. These weren’t just your typical chocolate and glazed donuts though, there were donuts of every shape, flavor and size present. After trying all the flavors, we can honestly say that there was no bad choices. However, we did have our favorites.

Colorado Donuts–  Colorado Donuts had one of our favorite donuts at the entire festival. There Fried Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Croissant Donut was to die for. It has one of those names, that even before you taste it, you already know you’re going to fall in love with it. This tasted just as you might expect from its name. The dough was the perfect mix between a croissant and donut, and the only thing better than a Reese’s Cup, is one in a donut!

California Donuts– Just as Colorado was representing with their great showing, so was California. California brought in there Blueberry Toast Crunch donuts to give out. Donuts are already considered a breakfast food by some, so why not really top it off by putting cereal on top. That’s right, they put Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top of the blueberry flavored frosting making it the perfect treat to start the day….or eat anytime during the day.

While the crowd enjoyed all the delicious treats, they could also enjoy the live music taking place in the venue. Attendees were able to munch on their favorite donut, while listening to all the great tunes. The Mad Ave Graffiti House, the venue that the festival took place at, was also great to walk around. All the walls held murals of graffiti art that gave the place a lot of character.

For attendees that were feeling especially adventurous or felt like they should have more of a “real” lunch, there was a food truck present serving up donut burgers. Yup! Just like you’d expect them to look. A regular looking burger with two donuts serving as the buns. That’s definitely something you don’t see everyday!

After guests tried all of the vendors, they voted on their favorite ones. Additionally, professional eaters sat down to determine the title of Best Gourmet Donut in Los Angeles on stage in a live judging panel.

Spudnuts Donuts– The winner of the People’s Choice Award for best donut was Spudnuts Donuts. This was no surprise as they were serving two superstar-like donut flavors. One was the Berry Cream Puffs and the other was the Creme Brulee Doughsannt. Both of these tasted delicious, but even more impressive was their appearance. They both could have passed for desserts at a five-star restaurant. No wonder attendees voted them best donut there.

ICDC– ICDC stands for Ice Cream, Donuts, and Coffee, and they were awarded the Best Gourmet Donut in Los Angeles by the the professional eaters’ judge panel. Despite all the great choices there, ICDC came out on top. We will definitely be making a trip in there soon, to try all of their remarkable flavors.
