Rain poured down immediately before the 22nd annual Taste of the Heights event held at the beautiful Whitte Museum in San Antonio, Texas. That didn’t prevent an eager group of foodies from enjoying bites from some of San Antonio’s favorite restaurants. The half indoor, half outdoor event hosted by the Alamo Chamber of Commerce had over 25 different San Antonio restaurants and catering companies to taste from along with beer and wine companies to sample from as well.
The “tastes” featured a great variety including Mexican, American, Japanese and a room that was primarily filled with delectable deserts. We loved all of the food, but we decided to share a couple of our favorite dishes that were the top tastes at the event.
La Marginal
This San Antonio restaurant brought a full on taste of Puerto Rico to Taste of the Heights, which included a five item Puerto Rico app sampler. My favorite item from them was easily the plantains which contained a sweet glaze that melted in your mouth.

Amy’s Ice Cream
Two words. Mexican Vanilla. If you are ever lucky enough to get your hands on this delight it is an absolute must. I got it mixed with Oreos, a decision that I did not regret.
Piranha Killer Sushi
This Sushi chain brought in multiple Sushi bites and samples and certainly had a great presentation and offered over five different types of Sushi for sampling. My favorite was hands down the Crunchy Tuna Roll.
Urban Taco
This Taco joint offered up a crispy a flavor filled Chicken Tosstada with a mild Tomataillo sauce on top. One bite of this certainly affirmed that no place does Tex-Mex like Texas.
Paesanos
This Italian restaurant took took home the best dish of the night. This was with it’s sensational Canoli perfectly blended chocolate and sweet ricotta creating a blissful treat. I was the last one to expect to find such a tasty Italian desert in San Antonio.
Goliad Brewing
This brewing company definitely took home the prize for best beverages of the night. This Texas based brewery offered three delightful beers for tasting: Goliad Golden Ale, Goliad Redfish IPA, and my personal favorite, the Golaid Presidio La Bahia. The Golaid Presidio La Bahia is a dark hefeweizen that bursts with chocolate flavors and hints of other spices. WOW
Taste of the Heights also featured an outstanding silent auction with an array of items such as signed jerseys and local jewelry. A portion of the proceeds went to Morgan’s Wonderland, a specially designed amusement park in San Antonio for children and adults with special needs. This nonprofit theme park is the first of its kind. If you wanted to step up, the evening VIP tickets were also an option, which provided access to private area.
