What a show at the Parish (@theparishatx), located in the heart of downtown Austin, TX. Funk truly does live on, finding its host in Mama K & the Shades.
Mama K & the Shades (@mamakfunk)- An 11 piece band, exemplifying what contemporary funk is all about. Forming just two years ago right here in Austin, they have already lit up the local music scene with awards such as the Austin America Statesman Band of the Month (March 2016).
They have set out on a mission to rekindle the funk-flame, by bringing high energy and groovy blends to their live performances that will surely leave you dancing, as well as making sure that great music never leaves Austin. Alongside the funk, their style also embodies soul, R&B, jazz, and many more genres to keep the party experience alive.
Band members include 11, diverse and unique musicians, all with various lengths in hair. No, lone women and vocalist Kelsey “Mama K” Garcia does not hold that trophy. That would be Johnny Storbeck, guitarist of course. The rest includes more vocals from Willie Barnes II, and Chris Barnes who is multitasking on the drums. Horn section includes Joseph Morrow on the trumpet, and trombonist Donald, aka Dbone, McDaniel. Lastly, to assemble their large band, is David Thacker on the keys, Wesley Gonzales on percussion, and Lee Braverman holdin it down with the Bass.
