“FF Bada” is Odysseus returning to Ithica. It is Shwarzenegger returning to acting. It is Battles returning to their roots, past the days of the rightly celebrated Gloss Drop and past even their exceptional debut Mirrored, all the way back to the place from which came EP C/B EP. The experimental electronic trio from New York found success in embracing a cacophony of dance-inducing, mind-melding, effervescent blips of psychotropia and having conquered the realm of the weird and wonderful, Battles seems to have asked, “what would have happened if we chose a different path all those years ago?” Taken from their upcoming third studio album, La Di Da Di, the hyper-rhythmic sweet jam”FF Bada” is stripped down from all the figurative and literal bells & whistles to a core that pays homage to that original sound without being a simple rehash. It is math rock at it’s finest – a polyphonic fever dream defined by articulate instrumentation and crisp timbres. It is the sort of track that causes one to vibrate in anticipation for the full release which drops on September 18th. Until then, a well-crafted single on repeat will surely tide fans over.
