Skyline: Art, Music, Food: No Better Way to Re-Open LA State Historic Park

In Buzz, Music Festivals by Benjamin

Everything seemed to go right on Saturday, May 20 at in Downtown Los Angeles, as both Skyline: Art, Music, Food and LA State Historic Park debuted under the hot Spring sun.

Organized by Radio Hill and KCRW, the highly anticipated, music-centered festival was held as the re-opening of LA State Historic Park. At one point the venue for Hard Summer Festival, this small but green park is now home to a new EDM focused festival, but one that is more singer-songwriter friendly and less emphatic on dubstep and rap.

With just one stage at the festival, fans were able to experience everything that was offered, and all with the beautiful Downtown Los Angeles skyline in the background. Along with the music, some great food could be found onsite, including Afters Ice Cream, Menotti’s Coffee Stop, and Little Fatty for Asian fusion. Additionally, Golden Road, Angel City, Dude’s Brew, Balast Point, and Coronado were all served beverages at Skyline.

Some highlights of the shows were seen in Eden’s, Lido’s, and Miike Snow’s sets. Eden, who was experiencing major technical difficulties with his sound equipment, was still able to get the attendees dancing and his loyal fans singing along. Lido utilized about 10 minutes of his set solely to remix Kanye West songs, and the crowd loved it. And Miike Snow’s lead singer, Andrew Wyatt, bounced between the piano and jumping around as lead vocals as he rocked the crowd to the band’s synth-heavy beats.

Sure to grow into a Los Angeles staple, we are glad we caught this unique festival in its infancy stage. We are excited to see how Skyline grows with bigger acts and drawing larger crowds.
