Taste of Mexico 2015

This past Saturday, people were able to get a taste of mexico without ever leaving Los Angeles! The 5th annual Taste of Mexico Food Festival and Mercado was the hot place to be taking place at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes. The event took place under the stars with extensive food tastings, tequila tent, mezcaleria installation by Mezcal Legendario Domingo making its U.S. debut, Ilegal Mezcal, Mezcal Los Javis, Mezcal El Silencio, michelada beer garden by Victoria Beer and Guelaguetza’s Miche Mobil, and live entertainment by A Poco No!, Jarocho Group Tenocelomeh and Metralleta de Oro DJ Collective

With so much delicious Mexican food in Los Angeles, this was the perfect event to sample all of the best ones and even try out some new ones. Mexican restaurants from all over crowded into the venue to showcase their specialties. While all the food was delicious, we had a couple of favorites.

PettyCash– PettyCash had a stong showing, and we loved all that they had to offer. Their tortillas are handcrafted from organic, non-GMO masa sourced from Masienda and prepared in-house. They had a ceviche dish that was so great that we had to keep coming back for more.

Mezcal Legendario Domingo– If you love Mezcal, then Mezcal Legendario Domingo is for you. Out of all the different mezcals we tried there ( and there were a lot), this one was the best hands down. It was remarkably smooth with a perfectly refined smoky taste that added to its great flavor.

Mr. Churro– If you have a sweet tooth, than Mr. Churro was the place for you. As I’m sure you were able to guess, the churro was their specialty.  Just to try out the delicious sweet, you had to wait in a huge line. It was totally worth it though, when you finally got to sample their sweet piece of heaven that they call a churro!

Unlike many other festivals, one of the best parts of The Taste of Mexico was not only did you get tons of delicious food, but you also gained a better understanding of Mexican culture. What better way to learn about something than with a full stomach and a drink in your hand. The festival had live music the entire time showcasing typical Mexican music, which attendees could enjoy while they mingled.

One was also able to browse different craft stations throughout the venue and see the beautiful artwork taking place. There were many booths around with one of a kind pieces that you don’t see in your every day mall.

Overall, the festival was a total hit. All the attendees seemed to be having the time of their lives. Not only were we treated to lots of superb Mexican cuisine, but also learned a lot as well. It will be exciting to see how they top this next year!

About The Taste Of Mexico Association

The Taste of Mexico Association is the flagship organization of restaurant exsponents of authentic Mexican cuisine in Los Angeles. It was created in 2010 by LA’s top Mexican restaurateurs – Jaime Martin del Campo and Ramiro Arvizu of La Casita Mexicana, Mexicano and Flautas, Vicente del Rio of FRIDA, Frida Tacos and Taco Libre, Bricia Lopez of Guelaguetza Restaurant and Ricardo Cervantes of La Monarca Bakery – with the purpose of embodying, enhancing and promoting the authentic ingredients, flavors and traditions of Mexico’s cuisine.

The Taste of Mexico Association was created with the idea of building a network of Mexican restaurateurs who seek to grow and learn by sharing experiences and information with colleagues in the industry. The association gains access to valuable industry contacts, all while taking part in an exclusive platform to enhance the visibility and reputation of each members restaurant, and those of Mexico’s cuisine in the U.S.
