While summer may be a time for relaxing and sitting by the pool, the HARD summer series kept us out of our seats all weekend long. HARD attendees piled into Colorado’s, Red Rocks Amphitheater and L.A.’s Fairplex to get their fix of bass. Needless to say, all were more than satisfied.
Now onto what everyone wants to know. Who brought it the HARDest?
Destructo, the forefather of G-House brought it the HARDest. On a stage aligned with pineapples, the ShipFam moved in closer and closer, as to support their favorite DJ/Producer, Destructo, also known as Gary Richards. Needless to say, Richards absolutely burned the G-House down with unreleased track after unreleased track. We were lucky enough to sit down and talk to the godfather himself.
Gary explained G-House as a musical fusion of west coast gangster rap with funky, future house. It’s not a surprise to hear your favorite rapper from 1998 or 2015 on an original Destructo record.
That said, Richards isn’t only ‘daring you to move’ with his music, he is also the man, myth, and legend behind the HARD events. The HARD events include Holy Ship!, HARD Summer, and countless others of the world’s most poppin’ parties.
Richard’s explained to us how he came up with the pinnacle of music festivals, Holy Ship! “I realized people were always partying in dark clubs. If there are people in bikinis, partying in dark clubs, then people can party anywhere.” And thus, Holy Ship! was born.
Honorable mention for who brought it the HARDest goes to who other than the leading man himself, Skrillex. Preforming as both Dog Blood and Jack U, Skrillex played in both Denver and LA this past weekend. Within both super groups, Skrillex manages to maintain the ultimate energy level in his sets with consistent and creative new remixes to old time favorites and gravity defying genre jumps. It’s not unexpected to hear your favorite d&b track spun back as the world’s biggest pop star adorns the stage.
