CTRL Collective Presents the VRScout Haunted Mansion

In Buzz by Sam

Some events seem to exceed reality. Especially when you head to a virtual reality event…. This past Thursday, CTRL Collective held their VRScout Haunted Mansion- a night filled with art, music and virtual reality t o explore fear on a whole new level. Attendees were able to explore their fears, delight their ears, and move their feet to the funky beats of some of Los Angeles’s favorite artists and creators.

If you are a fan or interested in VR in any respect this was the place to be. Every corner held a different VR creator showcasing their Halloween creation. With Halloween just around the corner, people are always looking to get in a scare. Maybe they go see a horror movie or attend a haunted house, but participants could partake in much more here. They were actually able to immerse themselves into the “scary worlds” themselves through the presented technology. If there is one thing scarier than watching a horror film, it’s actually living it.

One of F4L’s favorite parts of the night was taking part in Filmatics’ Eye For An Eye: A Séance in Virtual Reality directed by Elia Petridis. We put the VR glasses and headphones in and watched as a spooky horror film unfolded in front of our eyes. The only difference was that we were actually partaking in it. We had the perspective that we were standing there the entire time. We definitely suggest you check it out. The VR horror short film just officially launched on Wevr’s Transport Platform.

Another one of our highlights was Fulldome Pro’s showcase. They had a giant dome where attendees could huddle under and watch a crazy virtual show with music playing. They attended Burning Man this year, and we hope to see them at many more upcoming festivals.

Another aspect of the event that particularly stood out to us was the live music. They had a DJ playing, which sounds like nothing special. However, this DJ was controlling all the music through his VR set up. That’s right, no computer or turntables- crazy. Will this be the future for DJs? I guess we’ll see.

Overall, CTRL Collective put on one of a kind event that provided us with some much needed insight into the VR world. The hardest part of the night was leaving the event and coming back to actual reality. We’re excited to see what other events the future holds for them!
